Karen Tyner, Marshall's aunt and donor, gave Marshall one of her kidneys on September 2, 2010. Her gift of life was removed at the University of Michigan main hospital and taken to Motts Children's Hospital where it was placed into Marshall.
Both Karen and Marshall came through their operations successfully. Karen is back to Spartanburg, SC practicing law and Marshall successufully completed his 8th grade studies at St. Timothy's School in Raleigh, NC. He will attend some hockey camps this summer and hopefully play goalie again on a RYHA team in the fall.
Marshall had a visit from three members of the University of Michigan Hockey Team when he was still in the hospital at UMICH. That was a real thrill and helped him get his mind off all the medical stuff for awhile.
Marshall's lab results have been excellent. The new kidney is working even better than had been hoped for. His after-transplant care is being provided by the DUKE transplant team in Durham and Raleigh.
